Cafe Fantasia, a renowned establishment in Batumi, was opened in 1981 along the picturesque boulevard by the sea. This unique place boasts an exceptional mosaic artwork known as the "monster," adorned with captivating sea creatures. It stands as a remarkable symbol of artistic expression and creativity in Georgia. The intricate design of the phantasmagorical and surrealistic octopus incorporates architectural symbols from both Georgia and the world, embodying the concepts of freedom and innovative thinking. Cafe Fantasia is a truly extraordinary attraction that captivates visitors with its global inspiration.
In the 2000s, the cafe Fantasia became functionless and subsequently closed. Building was declining. Soon, the unique structure was under threat of destruction. After a several-year-long rehabilitation process, financed by the fond "Kartu", Octopus once again returned to the Batumi.
In 2019, Cafe Fantasia was reopened to the public. Presently, the Octopus structure holds the esteemed status of a heritage monument and is under the management of Tourinvest Group. It stands as a cherished symbol of cultural significance, preserving its historical and artistic value for the visitors.
